Simple Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

For Dough:

  • 2 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 TSP Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 2 1/4 TSP Active Dry Yeast 1 packet
  • 3 TBSP Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Egg Large
  • 2 TBSP Butter Melted

For Filling:

  • 2 TBSP Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar or Granulated Sugar
  • 4 TBSP Butter Softened

For Glaze:

  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 TSP Vanilla Extract
  • 2-3 TBSP Milk

Instructions

  • Heat milk and water together until it reaches 110 degrees F. Be careful to not make it too hot, it can kill the yeast.
  • Add the 3 TBSP granulated sugar and yeast. Mix and allow to sit until top is frothy.
  • In a stand mixer, add flour and salt.
  • Once yeast mixture is bubbly on top, add egg and butter to the same bowl. Stir until well mixed.
  • Turn mixer on low and add the liquid mixture. Allow dough to knead for about 5 minutes. If dough seems too wet, add extra flour, 1 TBSP at a time. You want the dough to be pliable, moist, and pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Place dough, in ball form, in a greased bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap. Allow dough to rise for about 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the filling in a bowl.
  • Once dough has risen, roll out into a rectangle, about 15 inches by 9 inches.
  • Spread the 4 TBSP of softened butter evenly over the top of dough. Then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over butter.
  • Now you need to roll the dough. Roll the dough on the longer side. Gently tuck the dough in on the edge and roll it towards the other side, trying not to let it get too loose.
  • Slice the roll into 9 equal pieces and place in a greased 9x9 pan, or 12 equal pieces and place in a greased 9x13 pan.
  • Cover again and allow to rise 30 more minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake rolls for 15 to 20 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
  • While rolls are cooling, prepare the glaze. Whisk together the ingredients for glaze until smooth. Add more milk if a thinner consistency is desired.
  • Once cinnamon rolls have cooled for about 5 to 10 minutes, pour glaze evenly over the tops. Enjoy!
